Media Deconstruction 3

This commercial made me laugh so hard and after it was done I thought long and hard about how true it is! I think that all teens should have to watch this commercial and know exactly how little kids can and do act. I know I don’t want an unplanned pregnancy I could not imagine a high school or junior higher person having a baby… you young life is OVER!!!!
#1 Who paid for the ad? – ZaZoo Condoms paid for the ad.
#2 Why does the company need to do the ad? The company needs to produce the ad because there are many other brands of condoms and they want to promote their name brand. The company also probably wants to have the ad to help people prevent unwanted pregnancies.
#3 What group is targeted by the ad? The group targeted by the ad is anyone who is having sex.
#7 What value(s) are reinforced? The vales that are reinforced are to practice safe sex if you are going to have sex so you don’t end up with an unwanted pregnancy.
#9 What different meanings would different people perceive? One may think this is a horrible ad because all kids are blessings and that it is the parents fault that the kid is acting like a brat. Others may view this ad as a safe sex pregnancy reducing factor and that it is a great reminder why you don’t want kids at this point in your life.
#14 Is it close to fantasy or reality? This as if very much a reality, if you have unprotected sex you have a very high chance of conceiving and having an unplanned pregnancy.

  1. Nice choice of deconstruction..it ties into your presentation! I don't understand why it is so "weird" for us to show condom commercials. I love what you said about reality- it is WAY possible that pregnancy will occur when the people are unprotected (not to mention STDs!!). Good breakdown, Emily!

  2. This was a very interesting commercial, and I think my ears are still ringing. I like that you brought up that different people might perceive different meanings, however I think you nailed it with showing teenagers this ad. I am of the firm belief that teenagers think that babies are happy and rainbows and roses and I think these teenagers need to realize that it is actually about tears, and screaming also. It was a great (and could be very educational) commercial. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I think this ad is targetting men that are not ready for children and for single parents who cant handle their children. The parent in the commercial cant control his child and he clearly looks too young to have a child.
