Media Usage

I was very surprised to see how little I use media. Personally I thought that I was addicted to my phone but now looking at my diary I feel as though I am addicted to the agenda book in my phone. There are alarms that are set and sound 15 min. or 30 min. before an event I have scheduled, I have my whole day, week, and month at my finger tips! I love it! I am upset that my IPod quit working on my phone and I don’t think that I used it that much it is just the fact that now that it is not working I am obsessing over it and getting angry because I can’t listen to music when in fact I usually just sing to myself anyway. I use to listen to the radio all the time that was my favorite time driving in the car just listening. But, now I don’t have a car! I guess in a way I have become less reliant on Media because I don’t watch TV, don’t listen to the radio any more, and I don’t hardly use my phone anymore either. I do use my computer for school but this past week I did not find myself on it as much as I did in the past. I do like to read the news paper and love to read my book but I am pretty much over being addicted to Facebook, my phone, and I have always hated TV so that has never been a problem. I wonder if me not using media as much as my future students will actually make it harder for me and limit my abilities to teach them in the most modern way because I don’t enjoy the newest gadgets.

  1. Emily- I don't necessarily think that not using the media frequently will diminish your capabilities to connect with your future students. I think that as long as you are current on what is being used and have at least some idea of how to use them, that it won't matter how you use your media your free time. I had the opposite problem after looking at my media use. It seems that at our house the television is always on, although for most of the time it's background noise.

  2. I think that each teacher teaches best, using the methods that they are comfortable with. And of course being a teacher and having those other forms of media readily accessible in your classroom and school, you will learn to use them, but I do not think that it will limit your teaching abilities! I think it is great that your technology based media use is limited. I think some people are so dependent on it that it gets in the way of their normal social skills and life!
