Media Deconstrucation 4

Emily McCarthy
Media Deconstruction 4
When deconstructing this ad I couldn’t help but notice the fact that the ad talked about how getting away helps you to get closer. I thought that that is was especially interesting because they zoom in on her wedding ring. I guess one can think that the ad is implying when you and your husband need a get away to rekindle your flame and relax then this is a great place to do it or it may be implying if you are at that point in your relationship it is a great place to elope. I feel as though this commercial does a great thing by focusing on the wedding ring for just the half a second. I think this because it attracts people that believe you must be married to stay the night with one another as well as attracting couples that need to just get away.
#1 Who paid for the ad?  Hilton Family Hotels Paid for this ad.
#2 Why does the company need to do the ad? I think that the company needs this ad to boost their sails. The company needs to show why their hotel is the best to say at and why people should stay with them rather than another hotel.
#3 What group is targeted by the ad? I think in this particular ad the people that are targeted by this ad are couples. The ad focuses on males and females getting away and how getting away helps them get closer.
#7 What value(s) are reinforced? I think that the value that is reinforced in this commercial is that time away from your everyday life is something that everyone needs. The ad also zoomed in on the woman’s wedding ring. I feel as though this commercial had a subtle value of marriage when making a getaway trip with your significant other. Or this commercial may have been implying that this hotel is a good place to get married.
#9 What different meanings would different people perceive? I think that different meanings that can be perceived can be that vacations for couples can be used to rekindle a spark that was starting to fade. When I first watched this ad that is what I initially thought. A second meaning that can come from this commercial is that if you need to escape reality then this is the perfect place to do so.
#14 Is it close to fantasy or reality? I think that this commercial had a little bit of both fantasy and reality mixed in. The reality is that vacations are relaxing, they can help you escape your everyday life, and they can help you rekindle a spark in your relationship. I think that the fantasy of this commercial is that just going on a vacation does not fix anything forever.

Media Deconstruction 3

This commercial made me laugh so hard and after it was done I thought long and hard about how true it is! I think that all teens should have to watch this commercial and know exactly how little kids can and do act. I know I don’t want an unplanned pregnancy I could not imagine a high school or junior higher person having a baby… you young life is OVER!!!!
#1 Who paid for the ad? – ZaZoo Condoms paid for the ad.
#2 Why does the company need to do the ad? The company needs to produce the ad because there are many other brands of condoms and they want to promote their name brand. The company also probably wants to have the ad to help people prevent unwanted pregnancies.
#3 What group is targeted by the ad? The group targeted by the ad is anyone who is having sex.
#7 What value(s) are reinforced? The vales that are reinforced are to practice safe sex if you are going to have sex so you don’t end up with an unwanted pregnancy.
#9 What different meanings would different people perceive? One may think this is a horrible ad because all kids are blessings and that it is the parents fault that the kid is acting like a brat. Others may view this ad as a safe sex pregnancy reducing factor and that it is a great reminder why you don’t want kids at this point in your life.
#14 Is it close to fantasy or reality? This as if very much a reality, if you have unprotected sex you have a very high chance of conceiving and having an unplanned pregnancy.

PBS Media

When taking the Quiz Yourself I scored a 9/12! I was really surprised with this result! On the second part of the Quiz I scored a perfect 6/6!! One thing the really stunned me when I took the first part of the quiz what the fact that Whites have the lowest media usage and Hispanics have the highest I though for sure it was to total opposite!

How do I use it? - Stay safe online, was a site that I looked at. This website allows parents to have "other" ways of thinking and provides them with safety tips about media usage.
What is it? - Teacher web - I looked at Teacher website solutions, on this website teachers can come up with a way to organize all of their information for their students and stay connected with the students parents.
Learn more - Media Awareness Network - The Media awareness network is a place where teachers can go and learn about safety, privacy, and online marketing, cyber bulling, and be able to evaluate online information that show stereotyping and hateful content.  Media Awareness also provides workshops, tutorials and speaking notes for teachers.
Examples - Teacher Tube -  This has a variety of video's that teachers can use to help teach a subject or specific topic. There are videos, lesson plans, and job listings on this website for teachers to use.

PBS Resources - Growing up online - I have not grown up one hundred percent in the online day in age but it defiantly affects me when I talk to my little brother. We talk about things like Facebook. playing games online, and being on his phone non-stop Dillon does not understand why this is annoying a rude to do when other people are in front or around you.
Dillon doe snot see the problem with always being on his phone and having two totally separate conversations going on while someone is standing right in front of him or at the dinner table with him. To me this is so frustrating and I actually get very angry when he does this. I also get even more upset when I am out with friends or something and they are on their phones non-stop. Truly I just want to tell these people STOP what you are doing and enjoy the people that are with you at that moment. This is something that in some way worry's me because I don't think I will ever be able to "connect" with these types of people.

Integrating Digital Tools and Content - Edublogs or create class blogs is something that I could like to have my students do I think that this could be a great way to get my students talking with one another and if they have questions about an assignment they could easily get an answer by posting it on their blog and having their classmates respond. This would clearly have to be monitored to make sure that no one was giving out answers.
Voice Thread - This could be an awesome way to get my students involved in analyzing things and crating short voice clips explaining a subject matter. This could be used for students to formulate a report, spell their spelling words, or crate a daily class news report. There are so many different unique ways that Voice Thread can be applied to the classroom.
Prezi.com - this is a website that I would use for students to create a document much like a power point for the class if they are doing a presentation. This is a tool that all the students would be able to use unlike power point where if you don't have it on your home computer you are unable to work on your project at home. This way all students will be able to work wherever they are and on any computer to complete their assignment.

Media Deconstruction #2

Media Deconstruction #2

Association – The commercial I feel applies that if you eat M&M you will be sexy and smart. The song that is played and red M&M ripping off his candy shell to be “naked” dancing to I’m sexy and I know it implies to me that you are sexy if you are naked and at the end of the commercial the Brown M&M says, “You’re smart I can tell just by looking at you and a really smart person would vote for my ad as their favorite Super bowl commercial.” Therefore this commercial not only implies to me that if you are naked you are sexy but you are also smart if you agree with this.
Bandwagon – I feel that this commercial implies the bandwagon technique because at the end of the commercial the brown M&M says, “You’re smart I can tell just by looking at you and a really smart person would vote for my ad as their favorite Super bowl commercial.” Thus resulting in most everyone thinking about it and probably actually doing it, because they were told to.
Humor – This ad was hilarious! I watched it so many times and truly it did make me want some type of chocolate. I was sucked into the commercial right when it started there were all the colors on a white back ground then a crazy fun song and it just got funnier as the ad went on. Not only was the ad funny but it was the M&M’s that made it funny (the product they were selling)!
#1 Who paid for the ad? – The M&M company paid for the ad for this commercial.
#2 Why does the company need to do the ad? I think that the company needed to do this commercial and make it funny and the way they did because the Super Bowl is I am pretty sure the most matched gamming event on TV all year and it is known for having great commercials. This is also the time when people can vote for their most favorite ad.
#3 What group is targeted by the ad? I think that all people are targeted by the ad although I feel as though it could lean a little bit more toward men. I think that this ad learns more toward men because of the sexual content and the fact that it was aired for the first time during the super bowl.
#7 What value(s) are reinforced? I think that value that is reinforced is that it is okay to be naked in public and think you are sexy. I feel that the sexual value that it portrays is funny but not necessarily appropriate for all age groups.
#9 What different meanings would different people perceive? I don’t think that all people would be offended by this commercial and most would just think it was funny. I do however think that some people would refuse to buy M&M’s because of the sexual content it was gesturing. Not everyone will think that this was an inappropriate commercial and will probably think that those who do are just too sensitive; but it really is not appropriate for all age groups.
#14 Is it close to fantasy or reality? This ad is far from reality. There is nothing real about it; M&M’s can’t talk and you’re not sexy if you eat them. This was just a funny and fun commercial that had lots of beautiful people in it with a hilarious “story”/idea of the M&M showing up “naked” to a business party.

Media Deconstruction

http://medialiteracyproject.org/deconstructions/nuvaring-swimmers

#1 - Who paid for the Ad : Nuva Ring Inc.

#3 - What group is targeted by the ad? - Teenagers : it shows that the pill is old fashioned and the nuva ring is new and "sexy" when she rips her old one piece swimsuit off and makes it into a bikini suite.
#4 - What about the ad leads one to that conclusion - You don't have to take birth control every day you just put it in for three weeks and take it out for one.
#8 - What techniques of persuasion are used? - New and Bandwagon both are showed in this commercial. There are many girls showing that they use to be on the pill and are now on the nuva ring this also is a new product shown in the commercial and telling why girls should make the switch.
#13 - How does the example try to move emotions? Is it simple/complex? is it logical? - I think that the ad is trying to be simple with a lot of subtle sexual gestures that all may not "zone" in on but I have noticed while critiquing the add.
#14 - Is it closer to fantasy or reality? -  Reality. People take birth control all of the time and this is a another great form to prevent pregnancy without forgetting to take your pill everyday.
#16 - In what ways does this depict a lifestyle that is healthy and unhealthy? - I feel that it is a healthy lifestyle if you are trying to prevent pregnancy. There are a list of health warnings given in the add that people do need to pay attention to to make sure they are 100% healthy and that nothing happens to them although trying all new medicines is a risk taking process.

Media Usage

I was very surprised to see how little I use media. Personally I thought that I was addicted to my phone but now looking at my diary I feel as though I am addicted to the agenda book in my phone. There are alarms that are set and sound 15 min. or 30 min. before an event I have scheduled, I have my whole day, week, and month at my finger tips! I love it! I am upset that my IPod quit working on my phone and I don’t think that I used it that much it is just the fact that now that it is not working I am obsessing over it and getting angry because I can’t listen to music when in fact I usually just sing to myself anyway. I use to listen to the radio all the time that was my favorite time driving in the car just listening. But, now I don’t have a car! I guess in a way I have become less reliant on Media because I don’t watch TV, don’t listen to the radio any more, and I don’t hardly use my phone anymore either. I do use my computer for school but this past week I did not find myself on it as much as I did in the past. I do like to read the news paper and love to read my book but I am pretty much over being addicted to Facebook, my phone, and I have always hated TV so that has never been a problem. I wonder if me not using media as much as my future students will actually make it harder for me and limit my abilities to teach them in the most modern way because I don’t enjoy the newest gadgets.
